What does W.A.G.S. do?
- Provides monthly gift certificates that can be used to purchase pet food and pet supplies at no cost;
- Pays for veterinarian services for each enrolled pet up to $100 per calendar year at participating veterinarian offices;
- Offers support for temporary foster care when clients have an extended hospital stay and no one to care for their pets;
- Assists with permanent home placement for orphaned pets as an alternative to euthanasia;
- Provides educational information such as “safe pet guidelines” to pet owners;
- Informs the community about the healing benefits of pet ownership for people with HIV or AIDS.
Who can use our services?
W.A.G.S. program services are provided to enrolled participants who are diagnosed with HIV or AIDS, and their pets (up to 3 pets upon initial enrollment), and who receive a monthly income of $1,000 or less per month. The service area for the W.A.G.S. program includes Metro Detroit and its surrounding counties.
